Sanktrati Reminiscence!

Sankranti ..

Reminds me of lot of things.. takes me back to childhood..

I was 12 years old.. January is the best time in Tenali because of nice weather. Global warming was not as prevalent then. There used to be fog in the morning and temperatures were at 15 C.

The second thing which used to excite me was that it was rangoli season. Starting from december 31st night, women and girls used to spend lot of time outside making big rangoli and we used to spend time going around to see how our rangoli compared with others. Competition was healthy in those days!

I used to run to Murali's house and we used to take out usual short cut (walking on parapet walls) to go to Lokesh's house. Then we used to go and spend time at Ashok's house where Raju also used to join us. We spent so much time at Ashok's house thats its not even funny. My father used to come and shout my name from outside and I used to run and get on his cycle to get back home for the festive pooja.

Bhogi was lot of fun. We used to collect lot of wood and paper and gather usually on my street at 5 am to celebrate bhogi. I never missed the Pulagam made by my mom. There is water in my mouth even when I am writing this..

Sankranti was usually all about wearing new clothes and showing off to friends :)

Then came the real festival, Kanuma .. time to eat chicken and mutton and share it with our muslim friends.. I was always sick the day after Kanuma for two reasons .. one because I ate so much those three days and second which actually is the main reason is that the festival is over :(

I loved the house where we used to live in childhood. It gave me so many fond memories, best friends in my lifetime that are still my best friends and most importantly when its gone, it taught me what life is really all about.. being strong and taking challenges as they come.

We used to watch lot of movies as well..

I grew up.. we added new friends..

Once I finished my engineering, Sankranti is different.. its about watching premier shows, playing pool and cards in Suman's house and hanging out with friends till parents used to call us(thanks to cell phones) and threaten us to throw us out of the house if we didnt turn back in the house.

There are lot of things that didnt change still .. my parents affection, taste of my mother's home made delicacies, my friendship towards my friends and their families (vice versa), those memories which are as fresh as they can be which makes me long for spending more time with my family and friends at my home town, the town where I was born and brought up .. Tenali.

happy sankranti guys.

My two cents !

A beautiful sunday afternoon !

When I find some time to relax and go out, I would want to go to a place where I can walk peacefully for sometime, buy a book or a gadget, eat good food and watch a movie. I know Mavalli Tiffin Room(MTR) at Lalbagh for long time though I never visited it. Last sunday I could make it finally!

By the time I have reached Urvasi theatre, it was 12.30 pm. Surprisingly, Urvasi theatre has an advanced booking counter now! Sooner or later I guess all these theatres will migrate to multiplex culture. Its good in some ways and bad in all other ways. Good part is that you can experience more comfort and luxury while watching a movie. Few of the several bad things are, ticket prices get hiked up, parking prices go up. Anyways, I had booked a ticket for SpiderMan 3 for 2.30 pm show and walked in to MTR which is just 50 meters away.

MTR is surprisingly larger than what I thought it is. Through articles in news papers and through some of my friends, I got an impression that its a small place and is too crowded most of the times. To my surprise, it is decently large in size with two floors and is not so crowded because there are people who take the responsibility to show you a seat. This hotel is unique in a way that its attire is very old. In kitchen there are very old utensils and tools that they use to cook ( like a traditional grinder, traditional pot from where they churn cream from curd to make butter milk). Next to all there is a Computer :)

They have supplied huge variety of items for lunch. Food was hmmmm... decent. What I liked most was bisebele bath. You should pour ghee and eat it, heavenly ! I also liked the chutney that they supplied with dosa. Its good to go to MTR once in a while when you do not eat heavy breakfast.

Post lunch, I went to Lalbagh. It was my first visit to it. Lalbagh is usually crowded on saturdays and sundays. After an hour of walking in the garden I returned to Urvasi for watching the movie.

I suggest you to avoid Urvasi theatre for matinee shows. Airconditioning is not able to keep the theatre cool because the theature is very wide and tall. But the sound system and screen are excellent. In all watching movie there is worth it except that I was soaked with sweat.

In all it was a beautiful sunday afternoon!

Where ends meet

This was taken on an evening at Ratnagiri, courtesy Leena. Sun has made a space from the thick clouds to illuminate the place where sea and sky seem to have met. Though this photo has been taken from a mobile camera, beauty of this picture makes us forget the quality of the picture.

I love hill stations

This was taken when a cloud was passing over a hill top in Ooty during 11th June 11.42 am. For a moment, I felt that the cloud was tring to imitate the hill in shape :)

beauty of ooty

Hmm ! It was a pleasant evening with sun setting over the trees around Ooty's Sullivan lake. I was peddling a boat on the lake waters. Whenever I see this photo, I get reminded of the serenity and divinity of that evening. This photo was taken on 10th June 2006 at 6.20 pm.

I am not Ansel Adams

I am not Ansel Adams in photography but I think there are quite a few photos that are worth sharing with people. These photos have been taken between 2004 - 2007.

This photo is taken on 12th May 2007 at 6.37 am from the hotel in Munnar where I stayed. I have never seen such a green river side which is filled of trees and green landscapes. It caught me by surprise that there is a river in a hill station :)
