Sankranti ..
Reminds me of lot of things.. takes me back to childhood..
I was 12 years old.. January is the best time in Tenali because of nice weather. Global warming was not as prevalent then. There used to be fog in the morning and temperatures were at 15 C.
The second thing which used to excite me was that it was rangoli season. Starting from december 31st night, women and girls used to spend lot of time outside making big rangoli and we used to spend time going around to see how our rangoli compared with others. Competition was healthy in those days!
I used to run to Murali's house and we used to take out usual short cut (walking on parapet walls) to go to Lokesh's house. Then we used to go and spend time at Ashok's house where Raju also used to join us. We spent so much time at Ashok's house thats its not even funny. My father used to come and shout my name from outside and I used to run and get on his cycle to get back home for the festive pooja.
Bhogi was lot of fun. We used to collect lot of wood and paper and gather usually on my street at 5 am to celebrate bhogi. I never missed the Pulagam made by my mom. There is water in my mouth even when I am writing this..
Sankranti was usually all about wearing new clothes and showing off to friends :)
Then came the real festival, Kanuma .. time to eat chicken and mutton and share it with our muslim friends.. I was always sick the day after Kanuma for two reasons .. one because I ate so much those three days and second which actually is the main reason is that the festival is over :(
I loved the house where we used to live in childhood. It gave me so many fond memories, best friends in my lifetime that are still my best friends and most importantly when its gone, it taught me what life is really all about.. being strong and taking challenges as they come.
We used to watch lot of movies as well..
I grew up.. we added new friends..
Once I finished my engineering, Sankranti is different.. its about watching premier shows, playing pool and cards in Suman's house and hanging out with friends till parents used to call us(thanks to cell phones) and threaten us to throw us out of the house if we didnt turn back in the house.
There are lot of things that didnt change still .. my parents affection, taste of my mother's home made delicacies, my friendship towards my friends and their families (vice versa), those memories which are as fresh as they can be which makes me long for spending more time with my family and friends at my home town, the town where I was born and brought up .. Tenali.
happy sankranti guys.
